Major John MacLennan
Ref. 1103
The 6/8 pipe march "Major John MacLennan" was composed by Pipe Major George Stewart (G.S.) McLennan of the Gordon Highlanders, widely regarded as one of the greatest bagpipe composers and masters of light music and piobaireachd. The tune was written as a tribute to his cousin, Major John MacLennan, an officer in the Gordon Highlanders who died on August 9, 1916, at age 51 after being injured when his horse shied from shellfire during World War I. Arranged for accordion.
